Visit the Southern French Alps!Every year the world is made anew under the gentle blanket of freshly fallen snow. Gone are the sounds of harvest and the colors of fall. A fresh canvas of glittering white drapes over the landscape, and nowhere is this more true than in the southern French Alps. Every year hundreds of people from all walks of life flock to famous ski resorts such as Serre Chevalier, Les Orres, Vars and Ancelle. But most people agree that the best way to experience the wonder and majesty of the Alps is to stay in a private chalet. Where will your canvas take you?

The Verdon Canyon in Summer

One of the best spots in the Southern French Alps in the summer is probably the Verdon Canyon. The great panoramas and the surprising wildlife speak for themselves, just get yourself a proper breath of fresh air. A good idea may be to follow the river with a rental pedalo and stream along the current while enjoying the surroundings. Now just watch the video and learn more about it.

Savines le Lac - South of France on Flickr.
The light blue emanating from the lake and the surrounding landscape shaped with mountains is properly breathtaking. The iron ridge you can see in the foreground is actually a pedal boat, which you can rent for a couple of hours to spend pedaling around the lake while sunbathing, taking a dive or looking for the best panorama. This is without fail our next holiday pick!

Chateau de Charance, Gap, France by French Mountain Dweller on Flickr.
The Château de Charance houses the administrative headquarters for the Écrins National Park, as well as the National Botanical Conservatory. Its main mission is to protect the wildlife in the park, which is well embodied on this picture. Note that the 9 km² of gardens house various sorts of plants, notably 1000 varieties of roses, including the first ever yellow rose.

View over Chaillot from Gap - Southern French Alps on Flickr.
Breathtaking view of the Gap landscapes in the Southern French Alps, here offering a rare contrast between the blue sky, the white mountains and the green valley. The “eternal snow”, found on the top of the tallest mountains in the French Alps, will never stop offering a white perspective to the local inhabitants, who obviously don’t see skiing the way we do!
